Oil Pastel Portraits
I’ve always felt the human face is one of the most beautiful things ever created. In fact, I’ve never seen a face I did not find beautiful
When learning a new medium, I am often given the chance to simply sit and create whatever I want. In this case, I find myself drawn to the beauty that is within the human face, specifically in eyes — the window to the soul.
In this particular time of my life, I found myself feeling desperately powerless and incapable. To my surprise, as I looked for subjects to practice with oil pastels, I was drawn to photos of women who seemed to sit with a sort of poised power, quiet yet clear. In the creation of these colorful pieces, I found myself reclaiming some of my own power as a woman, reminding myself with each stroke that I am equally as beautiful and powerful as the women depicted here. Each one is a unique reminder of the fierce ability in a woman who is able to see her own potential and strength.
